This work delves into the confusion and conflict that arise from the discrepancy between an individual’s inner and outer selves. By posing the question, „Am I living a complete life?“ it explores the human drive to achieve harmony between internal and external realities.
Central to the piece is the stress from the external world and the subsequent fragmentation of the individual’s psyche. It visually portrays the pain of feeling like shattered pieces, influenced by external evaluations and criticisms, leading to a diminished sense of presence.
The work also captures the anxiety and pressure caused by others‘ judgments and interference. By asking, „Why must I suffer because of others?“ it highlights how societal expectations and evaluations affect the individual. Despite efforts to maintain a personal sense of identity, one suffers and feels invalidated by others‘ gazes and judgments.
Furthermore, the work describes moments of trauma and extreme pain. During trauma, we often endure the pain with a blank expression, which others fail to comprehend. Observing these different responses to trauma adds to the stress and anxiety experienced.
The piece questions the true self hidden behind the curated appearances shown in formal settings. Through questions like „Where am I? What is my true self?“ it conveys the effort to uncover the genuine inner self.
Additionally, it illustrates the pursuit of true self-discovery through curiosity and a spirit of challenge. Though this might seem childlike, it emphasizes that such challenges are integral to the process of finding one’s true self.
